Bali Ha'i and Immigrant Song

My wife noticed today that the chorus in "Bali Ha'i" from the musical South Pacific
sounds very similar to the infamous war cry in Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song".

"Optimism" the fragrance @ The Broadmoor

According to NPR's "This American Life"
for the show 459 "What Kind of Country"
in Act 3 titled "Do You Want a Wake Up Call?",
the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs, CO
pumps out a fragrance called "Optimism",
on its properties, sort of a Lemon Grass and Sage smell.

Tropicana

Ahhhh! Tropicana changed their packaging. While I was in the store looking for my juice I couldn't find it because the new carton looked like generic.

I love their juice ... especially the "No Pulp" version. I like getting my friends and family hooked on the stuff, because once you drink it, it's hard to go back to concentrate. Tropicana is also better than all the other "not from concentrate".

Anyway, I called them today to complain about their new packaging.
1) it looks so generic - didn't even know it was on the shelf
2) they removed their very famous white/red striped straw trademark
3) removed the Orange and replaced it with a clear glass of juice
4) changed the cap lid to a 3-dimensional Orange - okay that was fun.
5) the Tropicana logo text changed to a generic looking font (which fooled me in the first place), the font is awfully boring now ... it says "why bother"!

Oh it's okay I'll still drink it even though it looks so average now ...

Believe Me, It's Torture

I repent! I've said in the past that waterboarding is not torture. Atheist, Christopher Hitchens says it is and he has tried it too!

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/08/hitchens200808

I have termendous respect for Hitchens doing this. Goes to show there are tons more moral and courageous people than Christians ... that is if Christianity is about moralism ... and it is not.

Timothy Keller asks and answers it well in his recent book "The Reason for God" with:
If Christianity is all it claims to be, shouldn't Christians on the whole be much better peolpe than everyone else? ... the church will be filled with immature and broken people who still have a long way to go emotionally, morally, and spiritually. As the saying has it: "The church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints. ... It is often the case that people whose lives have been harder and who are "lower on thge character scale" are more likely to recognize their need for God and turn to Christianity.
pp. 53-54

Thank you Mr. Hitchens for your kind act in pointing out 1) waterboarding is torture and 2) how far short Christians fall from the Glory of God. Thank God the Father in sending Christ who fulfilled the law on my behalf!!!

China's Earthquake

Cameras show quake at airport
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/7399463.stm

My sympathies to the numerous losses from the recent earthquake in China.

This video is quite interesting particularly because at 0:13 an official attempts to block the filming of this video ... hmmm ... why?
